A dedicated volunteer and board member of several Henry County historical organizations, Pat White inherited and maintains massive historical files, becoming the unofficial “Mt. Pleasant historian” through this work and additional research. Her preservation efforts include establishing an archival area for Iowa Wesleyan memorabilia with the Henry County Heritage Trust, serving on the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission, volunteering for the Mount Pleasant Historic Preservation Commission, and work with the Pioneer Cemetery Commission.

Preservation Iowa's two most visible programs are Iowa’s Most Endangered and Preservation at Its Best. These two programs work well together because being listed as Most Endangered often leads to awareness, a preservation effort, and a high-quality, award-winning project.
