Rehabilitation of Historic Japanese Garden

2024 Preservation at Its Best: Public/Non-Profit project (Institutional)

The only surviving Japanese-style garden predating World War II, installed in 1930, was gifted to the City of Muscatine in 1964. It has been restored to its original historic character after collaborating with Iowa State University and author/garden researcher Beth Cody.

Preservation Iowa's two most visible programs are Iowa’s Most Endangered and Preservation at Its Best. These two programs work well together because being listed as Most Endangered often leads to awareness, a preservation effort, and a high-quality, award-winning project.
